Who is behind the luxury skincare and beauty brands?
When they were formulating their first potions, Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden could never have imagined that women in the 21st century would still be loyal to them. These two distinguished ladies have since then integrated major cosmetic companies, but there will always be a great story behind their sales figures. Large corporations receive wide coverage, but smaller destinies are often more interesting, especially those having as a backdrop Switzerland, which is second to none when it comes to cosmetic surgery and biotechnology. We already know about Hormeta, Weleda, La Prairie, Valmont... Here is a newcomer.
LA PEAU. An unorthodox French name for a skincare line in the emerging field of cosmeceuticals. The primary active ingredient, the BCell complex, was developed by research scientists from Geneva and Stanford (California). Two sisters who firmly believed in the project bought the company behind LA PEAU. "Citizens of the world", Carla and Irma Khanjian were born in Lebanon, of Armenian origin, and immigrated to Canada. Carla lives in Montreal and Irma in Geneva, having followed her banker ex-husband. The line consists of three products: a day cream, a night cream and an eye contour – contained in transparent jars with a simple royal blue logo, and a very visible reference to SWITZERLAND. Inside is a fragrance-free white gel, nothing glamorous or superfluous, the aim is maximum efficiency. A surprising study conducted by Edel Therapeutics (EPFL) demonstrated LA PEAU exhibits more powerful antioxidant properties than 18 leading anti-aging products. "Promise me you will try LA PEAU for at least eight days," Irma told me. "Do not get discouraged, your skin will get used to its new non-greasy texture." So I tried it. And I was convinced. No tugging, just perfectly smooth skin, soft to the touch, beautiful to the eye. Hats off!
